Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director, Marketing & Future Students and working collaboratively with the Marketing & Future Students Team, the Multimedia & Editorial Specialist (MES) is responsible for generating engaging campaigns and promotional products that articulate the College’s Brand, in support of North Island College’s strategic direction, marketing objectives and brand identity. The MES creates content for use in a wide range of media, including websites, social media, advertising, publications, print, outdoor, video, audio, promotions, sponsorships and events.

The MES is aware of the Mission and Values of North Island College and incorporates the values in everyday practice.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Guided by NIC’s brand identity, develops compelling marketing strategies to engage a variety of college audiences, with a strong focus on prospective students.
  2. Under the guidance of the Associate Director, assists with planning, producing and executing compelling brand and program-level campaigns across NIC’s online and offline brand touch-points, guided by NIC’s strategic and tactical marketing plans.
  3. Works as part of a team to optimize materials to maximize NIC’s reach and engagement across all channels.
  4. Responsible for accurate representation of the facts and ensures accuracy and appropriateness of materials, by maintaining editorial integrity.
  5. Engagement, consultation and planning with NIC students, staff, faculty, administrators, alumni, College stakeholders and communities to meet business objectives. 
  6. Liaises with external videography, photography, and marketing contractors.
  7. Monitors, triages, and fulfills requests through the College’s Service Desk system.
  8. Guided by data, implements new content initiatives to promote NIC programs and services
  9. Assesses the strengths weaknesses of activities and makes recommendations for continuous improvement.
  10. Edits and guides the writing of others in a collaborative and respectful fashion.
  11. Meets tight deadlines on multiple tasks and projects with minimal supervision.
  12. Applies technical knowledge and ability to create content for use in a wide range of media; including online, publications, print, outdoor, video, audio, promotion, sponsorship, events and other emerging media.
  13. Maintains and adheres to NIC brand, visual identity and editorial style guides.
  14. Adheres to agreed project deadlines and budgets and prioritizes workload to achieve them.
  15. Researches independently and contributes as a team member on solutions to College-wide marketing needs.
  16. Ensures ongoing professional development of knowledge and ability, through self-development, sharing of best marketing practices, and participating in activities in support of the development of the marketing and recruitment teams, via team collaboration on collective projects, attending conferences and formal training.
  17. Recommends software and hardware technology related to marketing.
  18. Supports the Associate Director with preparing reports, briefing notes, and presentations for college-wide distribution, including to NIC leadership and Education Teams.
  19. Performs additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Associate Director, Marketing & Future Students
Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor Degree in Marketing, Communications or Business
  • Minimum of 3 years in a related position, preferably in the Marketing department of a post-secondary institution, with the following applied experience:
    • Technical and creative writing, copyediting for both print and online products and platforms
    • Multimedia concepting and production including but not limited to videography, photography, file management, file rendering, digital storytelling techniques, audio production, social media content.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Writing and Editing Skills
  1. Exceptional writing skills with the ability to write and edit for multiple genres and channels (marketing, advertising, technical, social media, and more).
  2. Proven ability to speak to the hearts and minds of unique audiences through a current and quality portfolio.
  3. Ability to identify an audience and create a relevant, compelling case that transforms interest to action.
  4. Strong command of branding and marketing fundamentals, including writing for the web and search engine optimization.
  5. Ability to follow existing CP Style guidelines.
  6. Demonstrated ability to write and edit original copy and layout in preparation for publication.
  7. Strong analytical ability including analysing content performance against established metrics.
  8. Ability to translate complex information into easy-to-understand information.
Multimedia Skills
  1. Familiar with media gathering, editing and file management workflows.
  2. Experience with operating and maintaining photography/videography equipment such as DSLR cameras, lensing, gimbles, tripods, lighting kits, smart phones.
  3. Intermediate proficiency with video and audio editing software.
  4. Ability to generate engaging content (static and video-based) across a suite of digital platforms, including social media, websites, digital advertisements and other emerging media platforms.
Soft Skills
  1. Ability to demonstrate effective team behaviours such as active listening, collaboration, balanced participation, and contributing to shared team goals.
  2. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks paying close attention to detail and deadlines.

  7. Ability to maintain accuracy and richness of content when working under tight deadlines.
Computer Skills
  1. Intermediate level of proficiency with digital media platforms (Hootsuite, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, LinkTree, CANVA, Spotify)
  2. Intermediate proficiency with MS Office Applications.
  3. Understanding of digital analytics, search engine optimization considered an asset.
