Position Summary | Reporting to the Dean or designate, the Trades & Technical Programmer (TTP) supports planning, development, implementation, analyzing, troubleshooting and evaluation of non-base programming within the faculty of trades and technical programs. Programming includes customized industry programs, a range of micro-credentials, and credit-based certificate programs developed and delivered in-person and/or online. The TTP works with instructors, subject matter experts, industry representatives, and college staff to optimize organizational efficiencies in course and program development while working with the faculty-based development team to carry out various facets of programming, supporting the designing and updating of educational technology tools with an emphasis on blended programs. The TTP works well with a team while being self-motivated and experienced at meeting individualized priorities. The incumbent will take proactive measures to support programming while being diligent in completing tasks associated with the development and launch of each program. They will take pride in actively problem-solving and will provide responsive development support to instructors and industry specialists while working with colleagues to carry out each project/program work plan. The TTP supports funding opportunities though the development of proposals with external stakeholders. The position works collaboratively with College departments and abides by requirements and standards set by the Centre’s Teaching and Learning Innovation. It requires ongoing learning and updating of knowledge and skills as the digital learning environment is changing every couple of months. Required Education & Experience | 1. Completed bachelor’s degree required in a related field (e.g., computer technologies, learning technologies or computer programming). Preference for a Master’s in Educational Technologies, Instructional Design or similar. 2. A minimum of 4 – 5 years of experience in a similar or related position which includes:

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities | 1. Demonstrated experience working across diverse programming across multiple campuses. 2. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the design and development of programs to meet regional/community needs. 3. Demonstrated background in program implementation and working with learning technologies. 4. Detailed expertise and knowledge are essential with respect to programs, part-time vocational courses, and training contracts. 5. Knowledge and experience with NIC processes and systems. 6. Ability to be proactive while maintaining a high level of productivity and prioritizing, as well as an ability to take initiative and work independently in a deadline-driven team environment. 7. Experienced working with faculty and contract instructors. 8. Experience working with service departments vital to program and course promotion and implementation. 9. Able to manage complex, varied and often time-sensitive matters in a professional and confident manner. 10. Good audio-visual skills with technical tools (e.g., how to connect camera to web-conferencing systems, manage multiple inputs and troubleshoot audio and video issues etc.) 11. Highly proficient in using tools and features from a variety of learning technology platforms and tools such as learning management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, PDF creation software, video and audio capture, storage platforms, blogging and website platforms (Kaltura, HTML, H5P, etc.) 12. Knowledge and working experience with NIC’s learning platform (Brightspace by D2L). 13. Breadth and depth of experience in using student-focused educational technologies including desktop conferencing systems, blogging and website platforms, student portals and social media. 14. Focused problem-solving skills and initiative to persist in exploring issues, experimenting with alternatives and then arriving at solutions for the program, course, and instructor to support successful student learning. 15. Excellent analytical, research and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and under the constraints of program development and delivery deadlines and done independently. 16. Excellent decision-making skills employing confidence and competence especially in the face of urgent or timely issues with learning technologies that could impact teaching and learning experiences. 17. Outstanding human relations skills, a strong customer service attitude and ability to effectively communicate complicated technical ideas in user-friendly language while demonstrating professionalism and confidence. 18. Very good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. 19. Awareness of and desire to work in the field of instructor support and online course supports with an eagerness to learn and understand new technologies and support experiences. 20. Self-motivated and directed, with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks to meet needs of instructors and students. 21. Able to work flexibly, independently, and successfully in a team structure. 22. Very good presentation and facilitation skills. 23. Demonstrated word processing skills and at least 50 words per minute keyboarding skills. 24. A valid driver’s license is required and access to a vehicle may be required for travel. 25. Flexibility to travel to other campuses as required. |
