Pay Grade The annual salary range is $68,385 - $109,584 (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications, experience, and the placement criteria of Article 14 of the NICFA Collective agreement.
Position Summary
The Walk With Me research and community engagement project is designed to create systems change and reduce stigma in relation to the toxic drug poisoning crisis, and develop strong connections with trades leaders and students in North and Central Vancouver Island to pave the path for future phases of this work. Through these connections, the research team hopes to pursue meaningful and long-term engagement with trades entities, eventually leading to concrete change recommendations related to service provision and harm reduction in trades. This project will facilitate a hinge between WWM and trades communities and set the groundwork for the project’s sustained evidence-based decision-making related to service provision for those at the heart of the toxic drug poisoning crisis.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. In collaboration with the Walk With Me research team, support engagement with industry leaders to gain insight into industry needs, challenges, and opportunities associated with opioid use and awareness and industry-informed harm reduction services.
  2. In collaboration with the Walk With Me research team, support the identification and collection of trades and technical-centric lived experiences and stories associated with personal and professional experiences, events, and awareness of industry and workplace conditions that enable and/or promote practices and uses, resulting in compromised health and well-being.
  3. Support engagement with NIC faculty, and NIC Students (foundation, apprenticeship, certificate, and diploma students) regarding Trades Walk With Me initiatives.
  4. Support the development and dissemination of trades and technical-centric communications and resources associated with the awareness of industry and workplace conditions that compromise health and well-being.
  5. Works with industry and program advisory tables to access insight into industry considerations, opportunities, and needs while identifying apprentices, employees, and leaders to promote dialogue and awareness of the opioid crises while identifying opportunities for collaboration.
  6. Supports the coordination and hosting of engagement sessions and meetings with trades and industry representatives, including a series of Story Walks (guided audio journeys hosted by the Walk With Me team).
  7. Supports the compilation of data to inform future planning, funding applications, and reporting.
  8. Acts as the trades and tech representative with the Walk With Me Research team.
  9. Performing other tasks as may be assigned, in keeping with the policies, programs and services of the College.
Required Education & Experience
  • Journeyperson Interprovincial Qualification (Red Seal);
  • Certificate of Apprenticeship;
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a journeyperson working in industry;
  • Experience instructing apprenticeship technical training;
  • Completion of the Provincial Instructors Diploma program;
  • Minimum of one year of teaching experience in a post-secondary setting.
  • Awareness of research agenda.

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of trades and technical programming, and industry trends.
  • Familiarity with the development and implementation of specialized initiatives.
  • Ability to work with Walk With Me research team, faculty, industry
  • Familiarity with industry engagement practices and procedures.
  • Strong facilitation skills to support engagement with faculty advisory committee meetings.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Understanding and respect for cultural safety practices and protocols.
  • Understanding and willingness to learn about the toxic drug poising crisis in the province of British Columbia. .
  • Strong communication and liaison skills.
  • Familiarity with scheduling and delivery logistics associated with funded initiatives.
  • Knowledge creating connections and relationships with industry professionals.
  • Willingness to perform other assigned tasks as per college policies and programs.
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities within the college environment.
